A compilation of packages (software) for the Newton 2000, 2100 and eMate PDAs.
Consolidated Newton Packages to enable ethernet networking
==========================================================
Ethernet connectivity for your Original MessagePad (OMP), MessagePad 100, MessagePad 110, MessagePad 120 or MessagePad 130 do not apply to this document.
Ethernet connectivity requires version 2.0 of the Newton Internet Enabler, available only for Newton OS 2.1 which will only run on the Newton MessagePad 2000, the Newton MessagePad 2100 and the eMate. Hereon, “Newton" refers to "Newton 2000, Newton 2100 or eMate".
Installing Mandatory Drivers
============================
Configure the Newton so that the packages are installed on the Newton's Internal Storage not on a PCMCIA card. Some of the packages are copy protected and will therefore refuse to install on a PCMCIA card. For the same reason you will not be able to 'beam' them from one Newton to another or file them on a PCMCIA card once you have installed them on the Newton's Internal Storage.
Packages
========
Ethernet.zip contains all drivers with the exception of Hiroshi Nogushi's Lucent WaveLAN driver titled NewtonWaveLAN_source.zip.
NewtonWaveLAN_source.zip is an ethernet driver for the Lucent WaveLAN based PC cards developed by Hiroshi Nogushi. The developer has since made this Newton package freely available and has generously donated the source code to the public domain.
Install Drivers
===============
NOTE: The four packages mentioned below are required no matter what type of Ethernet card you plan to use.
Although it is not necessary, create a new folder, name it "Ethernet" and file all packages in it.
1) Install the Newton Internet Enabler Ethernet Module, Enetsup.pkg.
It will appear as "NIE Ethernet Module" in the Newton's Extensions folder.
2) Install the Newton Internet Enabler, Inetenbl.pkg.
It will appear as "Newton Internet" in the Newton's Extensions folder.
3) Install the patched version of the Newton Devices package NewtDevProxim.pkg for Proxim RangeLAN2 wireless series cards. For all other cards install the original package Newtdev.pkg.
Both will appear as "Newton Devices" in the Newton's Extensions folder.
These are mutually exclusive. Both can not be installed at the same time on the same Newton.
4) Install the Internet Setup Inetstup.pkg.
It will appear as "Internet Setup" in the Newton's Setup folder.
Installing optional drivers
===========================
Depending on the type of network card, additional drivers may be required. It has been reported that installing all the following packages does not present known issue.

The following Farallon PN895 card requires the FarallonEthernet.pkg driver. This driver is required for all supported 3Com cards.
It will appear as "Farallon Enet" in the Newton's Extensions folder.

The following 3COM branded cards; 3c589, 3c589B, 3c589C and 3c589D require 3comaddon.pkg driver. It will appear as "z3ComDrv:cli" in the Newton's Extensions folder.

The following 3COM branded cards; 3CXE589DT, 3CXE589ET and 3CXE589EC require 3c589.pkg driver. It will appear as "3C589" in the Newton's Extensions folder.

**The following network cards require TDKEthernet.pkg driver.
TDK models: LAK CD021, LAK CD021AX, and LAK CD021BX
RATOC model: REX-R280
Fujitsu models: FMV-J182 and FMV-J182A
It will appear as "TDKEthernet" in the Newton's Extensions folder.
**The following TDK combo card models; DFL5610, DFL3410, DFL3200 and DFL9610 network cards require tdk0821.pkg driver.
It will appear as "TDKEthernet" in the Newton's Extensions folder.
**NOTE: The TDKEthernet.pkg and tdk0821.pkg drivers are mutually exclusive and can not be installed at the same time on the same Newton.
The following network cards require ATLANv8.pkg driver.
MELCO LPC-T, LPC2-T
Longshine LCS-8534TB
D-Link DE-650, DE-660, DE-660+
Correga EtherII PCC-T
This driver also supports the IBM credit card adapter Ethernet II
It will appear as "ATLAN" in the Newton's Extensions folder.

The AmbiCom 8010 network card requires Amb8010.pkg driver.
It will appear as "AMB8010" in the Newton's Extensions folder.

The Proxim RangeLAN2 series of wireless network cards require the proxim.pkg driver and the patched NewtDevProxim.pkg for this driver.
It will appear as "Proxim" in the Newton's Extensions folder.
NOTE: To allow this driver to offer more network options requires the ProximExtras.pkg to be installed. After installation it will remove itself.
Hirochi Noguchi developed the shareware LucentWaveLAN.pkg. It is likely to go down in history as the only Wirelss LAN driver ever developed for the Newton. In 2007, Mr. Noguchi generously released the driver and the source code as freeware. After unzipping you will find the LucentWaveLAN.pkg.
